Product information
Discover the heritage ‘Tahiti Melon’ squash, a classic variety rediscovered for its exceptional sweetness and size. This heritage butternut squash produces large fruits, typically weighing between 5-10kg, featuring a long neck packed with tender flesh and very few seeds. Its naturally sweet flavour profile makes it an ideal choice for roasting, delivering delicious, caramelized results. How to Grow: – Start seeds indoors in a propagator or on a windowsill from early spring, sowing one seed per 7.5cm (3″) pot filled with moist, quality compost. – Cover seeds with approximately 2cm (¾”) of compost and maintain a temperature of 15–20°C (59–68°F). – Germination is expected within 7–10 days. – Grow seedlings in a bright, warm location and transplant outdoors after the risk of frost has passed. – Space plants about 60cm (24″) apart and rows 150cm (5′) apart. – Alternatively, for direct sowing, plant two seeds per station in late May and thin to the strongest seedling once established. – Ensure regular watering, feed with a balanced fertiliser, and protect from frost for optimal growth and fruit development. – Harvest from August to October and store in a cool, dry place for winter enjoyment. This variety is renowned for its excellent storage qualities, meaning you can enjoy its sweet, roasted flavour well into the winter months. ‘Tahiti Melon’ squash is easy to cultivate, promising impressive yields for both novice and experienced gardeners.
