This compact early large flowered clematis produces reddish purple blooms with a velvety finish, bright stamens and a subtle silvery reverse to the sepals. The flowers are generously sized and create a luxurious display from midsummer onwards, with a second flush later in the season. It is also fully hardy and holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, giving you reassurance about reliability and performance. This clematis grows beautifully with climbing roses, jasmine, shrubs and other trellis trained plants, where its deep colouring provides striking contrast. It also suits large patio pots, obelisks and smaller garden spaces thanks to its more compact habit. Plant into fertile, well-drained soil, keep the roots cool and shaded, and tie in young shoots as they grow. Water well while establishing, feed through the growing season and prune according to its flowering group to encourage strong performance.
