The timber is treated using a traditional fuming process, which reacts with the natural tannins in the oak to create a deep, smoked appearance with naturally varied tones. Supplied unoiled, the board is left untreated after fuming, making it ideal for customers who wish to apply their own finish. This allows full flexibility to oil, stain, or seal the timber on site to suit individual preferences or match existing woodwork. The oak retains its natural character, with visible grain variation, organic figuring, and occasional small knots contributing to a distinctive and authentic finish. Each board will differ slightly in tone and appearance, reflecting the natural properties of the wood. All skirting boards are manufactured in the UK by experienced craftsmen using precision British and German machining technology. Timber is responsibly sourced from established sawmills in France, Canada, and the USA, kiln-dried to an average moisture content of 8-10%, and conditioned in a heated factory environment before and after machining to ensure stability and accuracy.Important note: Fuming is a chemical process that darkens timber in a natural way. Due to natural variation within the wood, different boards and batches will react differently, resulting in colour variation. Images and samples are provided for guidance only, and an exact colour match cannot be guaranteed. For a more consistent dark finish, staining is recommended instead of fuming.
